FISHING CONDITIONS FOR THE POCONOS, LEHIGH RIVER FROM A.A. OUTFITTERS 4-26-2011
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011FISHING CONDITIONS IN THE POCONOS BY A.A. OUTFITTERS 4-2-11
Saturday, April 2nd, 2011WELL, AFTER A VERY LONG AND VERY COLD WINTER (WE HAD 4 INCHES OF SNOW YESTERDAY, APRIL 1) IT’S TIME TO START THE NEW 2011 SEASON’S FISHING CONDITIONS UPDATES. AS EXPECTED, THERE’S NOT MUCH TO GET EXCITED ABOUT YET, HERE IN THE POCONOS, WITH THE VERY COLD AND RAINY/SNOWY WEATHER LATELY. AIR TEMPS ARE GOING TO BE 25-50 DEGREES THE NEXT FEW DAYS (THAT’S GOOD FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS) AND THERE IS STILL SNOW ON THE GROUND MAKING FOR VERY COLD AND SLIGHTLY HIGH WATER. BECAUSE OF THE BAD WEATHER, THERE HAVEN’T BEEN MANY OF US OUT FISHING YET.
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE, IT’S SUPPOSED TO WARM-UP THE NEXT WEEK OR SO WITH HIGHS AROUND 60 PROJECTED FOR NEXT WEEK. IF THIS IS THE CASE WE SHOULD START FISHING THE END OF NEXT WEEK AND THINGS SHOULD PICK-UP.
EARLY SEASON FLY PATTERNS FOR THE POCONOS ARE: BLUE QUILLS AND QUILL GORDONS, LITTLE BLACK CADDIS AND LITTLE BLACK STONEFLIES, GRANNOMS, TAN CADDIS. WOOLY BUGGERS AND BEADHEAD NYMPHS ARE ALWAYS GOOD EARLY IN THE SEASON IN COLD WATER. OUR A.A. BEADHEAD SUBMERGERS ARE A GREAT PATTERN HERE IN THE POCONOS.

It’s a good time to get out there and do some fishing here in the Poconos. Fall stockings have been completed within the past few weeks on the Lehigh, Tobyhanna, Nescopeck and other area streams. Try beadhead nymphs, small caddis, flying ants and BWO.
Here’s a reminder about our Fall Sales Event and G. Loomis NRX Rod introduction this Saturday, October 30. Call A.A. Outfitters for more info 800-443-8119.
FISHING CONDITIONS POCONOS / LEHIGH RIVER 8-27-10
Friday, August 27th, 2010WE RECEIVED A BIT OF RAIN, FINALLY, LAST WEEKEND WHICH GAVE US SOME MUCH NEEDED WATER IN THE STREAMS. HOWEVER, THAT’S DISSIPATING AND WE’RE LOOKING AT NO RAIN AND DAYTIME TEMPS IN THE UPPER 80S TO 90 DEGREES FOR THE NEXT WEEK OR SO ….. AGAIN. SO, AGAIN, WE HAVE LOW WATER CONDITIONS HERE IN THE POCONOS STARTING ON THE 28TH. ALSO, THERE SEEMS TO BE A WATER RELEASE ON THE LEHIGH SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND. TO TOP IT OFF, RAIN IN NORTH PA. AND UPSTATE NY HAVE CAUSED THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER TO RISE NEARLY 4 FEET.
SO, SORRY TO SAY, FISHING CONDITIONS AREN’T GREAT HERE IN THE POCONOS AS THEY HAVE BEEN ALL SUMMER. CALL A.A. OUTFITTERS 800-443-8119 FOR MORE INFO OR STOP IN THE SHOP, IN BLAKESLEE, PA.
FLY FISHING CONDITIONS – POCONOS, LEHIGH RIVER 7-6-10
Wednesday, July 7th, 2010WELL, THERE’S NOT MUCH POSITIVE TO SAY ABOUT FISHING CONDITIONS HERE IN THE POCONOS THE FIRST WEEK OF JULY. A NEARLY RECORD-SETTING OR RECORD SETTING HEAT WAVE AND TOTAL LACK OF RAINFALL THE PAST FEW WEEKS HAS CAUSED EXTREME LOW AND “HOT” WATER. WE’RE SEEING WATER LEVELS AT THE LOWEST WE’VE EVER SEEN, WITH MANY “MEDIUM” SIZED STREAMS LIKE THE TOBYHANNA, UPPER LEHIGH AND BROADHEADS RUNNING AT 26 TO 50 CFS. WATER TEMPERATURES DURING THE DAY ON MANY STREAMS LIKE THESE ARE IN THE 80S. SOME POCONO STREAMS ARE REGISTERING WATER TEMPS OF 81 TO 86 DEGREES F.
OBVIOUSLY WE’RE NOT OUT FISHING MUCH THESE DAYS AND WE’RE HOPING FOR RAIN AND A COOL-DOWN. A FEW “FISHABLE” AREAS ARE THE LEHIGH BELOW THE DAM, THE LOWER LACKAWAXEN, THE WEST BRANCH OF THE DELAWARE. THESE AREAS HAVE COOLER WATER TEMPERATURES DUE TO CONTROLLED WATER RELEASES.
WE STILL HAVE A FEW ROSS LIMITED EDITION EVOLUTION LT RAINBOW TROUT REELS AVAILABLE. CALL A.A. OUTFITTERS TOLL FREE 800-443-8119 OR STOP IN THE SHOP, IN BLAKESLEE, PA.
FISHING CONDITIONS FOR POCONOS / LEHIGH RIVER 6-9-10
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010LACK OF RAIN HAS MEANT LOW WATER CONDITIONS FOR THE PAST WEEK OR TWO HERE IN THE POCONOS. THANKFULLY IT HAS BEEN COOL THE PAST FEW DAYS. FISHING HAS BEEN GOOD FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS, MAINLY EARLY IN THE MORNING OR IN THE EVENINGS. BLUE WINGED OLIVES, SULPHURS, YELLOW STONEFLIES, SLATE DRAKES AND CADDIS HAVE BEEN AROUND. SOME GOOD SPINNER FALLS IN THE EVENING.
THE LEHIGH HAS A RELEASE SCHEDULED FOR THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND (12TH, 13TH) BUT RELEASES HAVE BEEN IN THE LOW 200 CFS FROM FRANCES WALTER DAM OTHERWISE, MAKING FOR EASIER WADING AND GOOD FISHING ON THE LEHIGH. SMALLER STREAMS HAVE HAD LOW WATER SO THE FISH HAVE BEEN A LITTLE SPOOKY DURING THE DAYTIME.
