FISHING HELPFUL TIP - Better Distance Casting
Clean your rod! How to get more distance when shootin line? Keep your rod blank clean. This is most important when fishing for Bass, Saltwater or when fishing in waters with a lot of sediment. Much is made of the friction caused by lines going through the guides of a fly rod. Consider that the total surface area of the guides may be only about an inch - where the line touches the guides as it shoots through. However, as your line shoots through the guides it may touch anywhere on the blank, maybe up to 7 feet in length of surface area of the blank. This can really slow down your line if your rod is sticky or dirty. We experience this especially when fishing for Smallmouth Bass in the Susquehanna. Our blank gets very sticky after only about a few hours of fishing in the Susquehanna River.
I’ve found that cleaning or coating your entire blank occasionally with Son Of A Gun, Armor All or Furniture Polish works very well. With a clean, dressed line and a smooth slick blank, your line will shoot like a rocket!
