FLOODING in the POCONOS

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Don’t even think about fishing in the Poconos or Northeast Pennsylvania for awhile. Major and catastrophic flooding has occured on many, if not all Rivers and Streams. All are unfishable and are EXTREMELY dangerous. Hundreds of roads, bridges are out in Northeast Pa. Many homes and Businesses destroyed or damaged. There have been lives lost. Our thoughts and positive wishes go out to those affected by the flooding. We’ll have to wait awhile to see the total damage caused.

FISHING TIP - June ‘06

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

Try a Hopper as a strike indicator. If fishing nymphs in the Summer, it’s a good idea to use a Hopper as a Strike indicator - doubling your chances of taking fish. A nice foam Hopper which is highly visible, such as a foam Rainy’s Marshmallow or Grand Hopper float extremely well and catch fish. Just tie on your nymph to the bend of the hook of your Grass Hopper and go to it! Need more info or suggestions? feel free to call A.A. Outfitters Fly Shop for help. Call 800-443-8119.

FISHING TIPS - June 2006

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

Don’t see many Caterpilar patterns around for Trout Flies but it’s a good idea to have some. Trout like them. There are tons of Caterpillars around this year. Two types basically - the standard one to one-and a half inch Caterpillar and a tiny one about a quarter of an inch long. Try a dark olive foam or furry foam bodied fly with some very small hackle the entire length of the body (Whiting 100 pk hackle in Grizzly/Olive size 18 or 20). Great when the wind is blowing them out of the trees and into the water.
